Subject: Ford Tractor Pistons

SW “Ohia”

Overhauling a 401 from a Ford 9600 that ingested some metal into the No. 1 cylinder. The other five pistons are being reused because they only have a few hours of run time on them. I do not know the source of those pistons other than they were installed in 2013.

The new replacement piston from Reliance is different. It has a smaller bowl diameter and a raised spot in the middle.

Does anybody have some input or background here? Reliance states this piston is correct for the 401 in a 9600.
