I believe they are bagged after a bath in a chlorine solution or perhaps oxidate.The processing and sealing of a bag of produce creates the perfect environment for bad bacteria so almost all are treated in the wash water.Your bagged coleslaw is also.So the huge carrots that they chop up and roll on special shapers and the remnants squeezed for carrot juice do have a weird flavor ,some what reduced after in the air for a bit.Carrots have a ring growth like a tree,look closely and you will see how they are shaped.Buy them whole.
