Beresford, SD | Yes. But, a young bred is worth? A bred heifer costs ? to raise? An open kill cow is worth? Costs $1.50ish/day to keep her around. It’s my calculator, my costs, my environment. Oldest cows are coming with forth calf. Have only sold 1 open cow since I started my cow/calf enterprise 5 years ago. Open heifers up to 2nd calvers go in the feedyard and sold with fat heifers. 3rds calvers on up........bend over! Just trying to avoid bending over as much as possible.
Edit. Seasonally we also have a stronger kill cow market going into spring than in the fall.
