southwestern illinois | i hope you had a great drive. i live about 12 miles south of 64 the mascoutah exit. up there the soil is amazing and much of it has been pattern tiled long ago. the soil is alluvial from the mississippi and there is one spot that has 70' of top soil...which was an old creek bed. but (and a big one) 12 miles south things change quickly. i have several farms in the kaskaskia bottoms(which is one of a few, where the bottoms are poorer than the upland). on my better soils i have raised 245 corn but you can't bank on it. soybeans range from 60 to 85 . | |
