Eastern Kansas | Dad bought a black Brangus bull from Judd's in the late 80s. Not sure if they were doing gelbvieh at that time or not. I was only about 5 years old. I can only remember playing in the sandbox behind their house while Dad and oldest brother were looking at the bulls. I would not buy one from them today because I'd be afraid of feet problems from them pushing them so hard, plus the yearlings would melt if you put them on more than 10 cows. MO.
I have went to AI on most of my fall cows. If I can get 60% bred on day 1 of the breeding season and another 25 to 30% bred on day 21 of breeding season, I think it is paying. Plus I am keeping back the best 1 or 2 AI bull calves and developing my own bulls without pushing them so hard that they have foot problems. | |
