SW Nebraska | Switched to feeding ground hay to the cows during calving a couple years ago and like several neighbors I have had the bales ground with the net wrap on. Had a post done on a cow last year and was surprised to see how much net wrap was built up in her rumen. It wasn't the cause of death, but eye opening nonetheless. I have heard stories of cows dying from net wrap, but that wasn't ground up. I know the best thing is to take it off before grinding, but getting in and out of the tractor 50 times would be tedious. That is still is my number one option though. My question would be if this coming year if I twine tied what I knew I would feed next calving season and ground it with the twine on, would that be less plastic going through a cow or just a different form? Thought that twine might pass through them easier than net wrap. | |
