Subject: Aflatoxin Testing Standard Proceedures

Central Kansas
We are having loads rejected at the ethanol plant for aflatoxins. Their limit is 10 ppb.

Their sample from the probe failed at 30+ ppb. I took two samples for them to test and asked them to double test each sample (total of 4). 3 of the samples were 2-3 ppb, 4th was 24 ppb. All were from the same load, one was collected piece by piece out of the bin auger and the other off the top of the truck.

How can a test be definitive without being repeatable? After much negotiating I failed to convince them their test is unreliable and had to take the corn home.

Is there a way to sample and get an accurate answer?
