FYI-Sold those 46 Holsteins averaging 516 and got $1.28/lb at local sales barn today. I couldn't feed them $5-6 corn for that price. Seems hard to believe that guy who bought them is going to come out ahead...He is going to need $115 cwt live weight fat to make it worthwhile.


panic and knee jerk reactions usually don't lead to long term success, if you are in the business, stick with the program and keep turning and reloading. These times usually turn out a good buying opportunity. Before they are finished, I bet the buyer has the opportunity to lock them in at $1.20+ and corn drops well below $4.


I would say the only reason to feed cattle is if you feel you have some kind of competitive advantage. Someone in Mn may be feeding those calves $3 barley, and clickers bets can be made on the board.
