Davis do seem to have a cumbersome way of connecting, when I got mine about ten years ago getting a USB driver for it was a complicated thing, you had to hunt it out yourself because they still favoured serial port (whatever that is!) You had to spoof the USB to appear like a serial port to be recognised.
It might be better now but I wouldn't bank on it.
