I inherited a couple of those from my grandpa. He was a welder at our local paper mill. I bet I’ve got 50-70 bottles of different powders. Honestly I don’t know the first thing about them other than I thought they were for putting hard surface on things. I’ve never messed with them at all, I didn’t know they made a cast iron welding powder.


There is a machineable nickel powder that is suppose to work for cast, but I have never done that. I use it to build up shafts where a bearing has spun. It then can be turned down in a lathe, or if I repair the shaft while still in the machine, a file will work too.
