Red River Valley, North Dakota | Just did what your talking about. Side toolboxes and air compressor mounted to skid. Skid goes into gooseneck hitch and locks in like a ball would. Skid also attached to rear hooks in bed to hold from sliding at all.
Fuel tank and attached tool box always stay in pickup. I keep booster cables , hitches, etc in this one.
Takes less than a minute to remove tool skid and have bed free for gooseneck or 5th wheel hitch.
