Not hard to do at all. I put in a whole-house filter ahead of ours. I also plumbed a bypass around the filter and another around the softener, since you want to keep water available even when you are working on something or if something fails.

Don't spend big bucks on big names. They all do the same thing. Culligan was several times what I paid for an equivalent Water Boss, fifteen years ago, especially if you went with all the needless add-ons they were pushing.
