They made some durable hydro turbines for generating electricity. There were two installed in the powerhouse of a lake dam in 1949. They weren’t replaced until about 2001.
The original generators in Hooker Dam were all A/C as well. Until sometime around 2000 or so, there was still an Allis Chalmers Electric Corp in an office based in Las Vegas to handle maintenance for those generators. They had a 99 year contract or something like that they had to fulfill.
When I was there last in about 2009 I could still see A/C emplems on a few of the remaining generators. I think all the auxiliaries in the downstream generating buildings all had their original generators too.
It is amazing the vastness of products A/C built....International build a lot of different things as well, but I think A/C had them beat as far as the broadest range of products.
