Southeast MN | I ran a comparison test between mowing, then rake and bale vs rake and bale.
Mowing got me an extra 12% more bales than just rake and bale. Dry down was the same for both.
When I just raked , I lowered the bucket to bend the stalks over so the v-rake put the windrow on leaning stubble. Then bales same direction as the rake.
Next year will be rake and bale, no more chopping or mowing for me.
