Subject: RE: Teaching your child to get down from combine safely

Between Omaha and Des Moines, 7 miles South of I80

This is why I put "old man steps" on every older tractor, and added a step to the 8410. (each lower step is roughly 15.5" from ground, now)

20 years ago, I build a "spring-loaded" lower step for the 6620 sidehill combine, and a JD dealership combine mechanic said, "You could sell those". It is very handy.

Just yesterday, I tripped on a stiff cornstalk, walking to combine with water jug, and food cooler in each hand and they both went sailing, as I fell to the ground.

About 12-14 years ago, I slipped getting out of the IH1066, the wrong way, and went face first into cornstalks and got very lucky, not to poke an eye out. (learned a lesson, right then, about the proper way to exit that tractor cab, with factory step)
