Subject: RE: Long life of the B-52

Actually the F-15 has been in continuous production since about 1972. The F-15EX is going to be an impressive bird. It’s really amazing that the original engineers built such a robust airframe that’s still aerodynamically relevant 50 years after it was designed. In fact, an Israeli F-15 landed with its right wing after a mid air collision.

As far as the -52, -130 and -135, and quite a few other airframes go, the Air Force actually took flying aircraft and disassembled them to map fatigue points, it was a really interesting program. What’s really amazing about the B-52, that last airframes wee built in the 60’s, and are now used for a lot of low level work, which places much more stress on the airframe (more turbulence, more banking following the terrain).

Sorry, about me jumping in here as my first post. I’m a long time lurker. I had to nerd out a bit here, aerospace and Ag are my two loves!
