Here in the past there were lots of Germans that made saurkraut,A wooden slide was made with a blade from a hay scythe mounted in it then a wooden box with no bottom held the cabbage as it slid back and forth,very crude but can be made if you are making a lot.I will try to get a photo from the one on shop wall.
