East of Broken Bow | Give them bloat guard a day or two before letting them out.
I know a guy who lets a field of alfalfa grow about 6-10 inches tall, and in the fall, if he doesn't have a corn field picked and fenced out, and the cows are getting hungry, he gives them bloat guard, and lets them in the alfalfa. No worries about them pushing on the fence trying to get out, and as far as I know, has never lost an animal.
Even says it helps if you had a lot of down corn. The cows are so full of green alfalfa, they are far less likely to overeat on the corn. I've seen his cows, and they look real happy on the green alfalfa, but don't stand too close behind one, and yell BOO! | |
