Peer review should be very important. However, I believe that it has been (mis)used in climate science extensively. I suspect the same might be true here for a study on wearing masks that does not confirm the "official" line. Both of these areas have simply become too political - with scientists forced to choose up sides for the fight.
As "sundance" over at "The Last Refuge" says - there are trillions at stake.
