Iowa | Not sure what you mean by shutoff on the laptop, but I assume that you mean that you want it to "go to sleep" when not in use for a certain amount of time. Usually this is done by a utility on the laptop by the laptop mfr. I would start there.
On the hibernate vs sleep
Sleep generally slows the disk and puts the monitor into a suspended state but does not shut the disk or other components off.
Hibernate essentially turns everything off by putting everything currently running on the computer onto the hard disk. Once you bring the computer out of hibernate, the info on the disk is brought back into memory and the computer is running where you left off. | |
