When you say setting, what’s it got for settings, do they have like a min. Gap setting?
They have little lobes you can adjust for minimum and maximum deck plate opening. We normally pull them out on the minimum side so they'll close all the way and then set the maximum side for what your area conditions normally need.
As far as the pistons freezing up, if you use the correct grease they won't. The spring inside the piston will weaken over time but you can adjust the tension on that as well if needed. Also important to keep them deck plate area clean especially after season is over for storage.
