Subject: RE: 4020 starter

Faunsdale, AL
The cheapest thing available aftermarket will be a knock-off 28MT starter. They can be less than $100 and work really well......until they don’t! I’ve bought several and been disappointed in the solenoid contact life. The starter begins requiring several “clicks” to get it to spin. When it finally quit, I opened up the solenoid and the contact disk inside had a pattern of “nubs” all over it. Once the nubs burned off, it wouldn’t make contact.

So the 28MT starters fit under the tightest of the diesel intake manifolds, and will fit propane and gasoline 3020 where length is a problem because of the updraft carburetor hanging down. They spin the engine fast and will do it on one battery. Oh, they’re a lot easier to install than the OEM too.

I’ve just got to find a source of quality solenoids.

So maybe don’t buy the cheapest one you can find on the internet.
