nw NC | A distant cousin sent me pictures of an old sword that belonged to his grandfather. His grandfather lived in Mount Airy, NC in late 1800's through probably 1960 or so. Cousin found them in his mother's attic recently and she did not know the history of them. Perhaps ownership or possession of them had something to do with membership in some type of fraternal organization and they were of ceremonial significance in the organization. Anyone have knowledge of these swords or similar swords? One picture shows apparent manufacturer as being in Columbus Ohio. I did a little Google searching and found some info about Knights Templar Swords and in that info a mention was made of Masonic Knights Templar Sword. I then remembered an organization called Scottish Rite. Google info shows Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. Perhaps my cousin's grandfather ( my mother's uncle) was a member of Scottish Rite (or Masons as I always heard them referred to around here). Last name of the grandfather was Shelton, a Scottish name, hence the possibility of being associated with membership in Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.
