Our John Deere 1890 disc drill planted both tilled and no tilled pretty good. Had to be careful if the ground was too fluffy with the back rows covering up the front.............but overall it was pretty impressive.

After it burned we bought a use Case SDX (because it was quite a bit cheaper). It is heavier and will penetrate hard ground better than the John Deere. But it does struggle quite a bit when the ground isn't firm. It's almost impossible to keep from covering the front rows up.
