Different sands so things vary. But i can tell you what i do in my sand.

Seed deeper. The top 0.5 inches of my sand dries powder dry very fast. So i seed 0.5 inches deeper than recommended seeding 2-2.5 inches deep to get to moisture. Than seed about 20% heavier to help germination and helps the crop get ahead of the weeds.

Heck i seed small grasses like Timothy and even alfalfa an inch deep to get it growing.
