Subject: RE: figuring wheat population

Colby, Kansas
One way of figuring it is to figure how how many row-feet to an acre for your row spacing:

1 ac = 43560 ft2

43560 / (row spacing in inches / 12) = row-feet to make 1 acre
43560 / (15/12) = 34848 row-feet = 1 acre

Then divide target population by row-feet per acre to get seeds/foot:

1250000 seeds / 34848 row-feet = 35.87 seeds/foot

This happened to be the tire spec I found for that size, says rolling circumference is 91 inches. This is always a bit of a crap shoot, tilled ground vs. no-till, how much deflection on the tire due to drill weight and weight transfer, etc.
