Must be a "there" thing. Haven't heard of getting a pertussis shot before seeing a baby.
If a mask will protect anything, just let the other person wear it. He/she will be OK. Probably will be OK without it too, though either is hard to prove.
Ron , purpose of masks is for the 'wearer' not to infect others , wearing a mask is a courtesy for others, not to protect u.
