Central Nebraska | In the perfect world, I'd get both. A carbide chain in a chainsaw with a depth guard is a lot more versatile than the k12 style of saw for ventilation and opening walls to gain entry in residential structure fire settings. If you have more commercial/industrial buildings then the k12 would be a better choice. In Central Nebraska, about the only time we use the k12 is for cutting open overturned livestock trailers. We have the big stihl rescue chainsaw with the depth guard and a few other firefighter friendly features as well as a small "limbing" type saw on our front line engine The small saw is primarily used to make ventilation openings in the gable ends of houses to ventilate. It is easier to run that while on a ladder. We stuck with the gas saws just for the fact that you can always add gas and go instead of waiting on a battery to charge. It was a lot lighter too. | |
