Mitchell, SD | Been planting more and more cover crops over the years and have been including rye planted into corn stalks after harvest in our better eastern fields with a strictly corn/bean rotation. Have harvested our first crop of rye for seed. Did plant a couple of fields to rye cover last fall in our western wheat area. Terminated this spring before heading. Could harvest the sunflowers planted into it early enough to get wheat planted (no leftover rye emerging yet). IF I plant wheat into it, would buy a sponge wipe attachment for sprayer to wipe rye heads next June. I know it’s risky but am wondering who else does this and how well does it work? I have plenty of CSP acres that have to have cover planted out west. Could do wheat instead but prefer better growth of the rye. Thanks for your input. | |
