S Illinois | July 15th is only an arbitrary deadline especially this year. Every year acreage can still be reported after the July 15th deadline by way of a late filling fee. This year that fee was waived for 30 days, so the actual “deadline” was Aug 14th(after the first FSA acreage report release). Producers have always had a full year to report acreage as long as they were willing to pay the late filing fee. So we can still report 2020 acreage into next summer.
Then one gets into errors or revisions made after the fact due to any number of things such as coding errors, planting still occurring after July 15th, etc.
This sort of reminds me of the insurance yields are best for actual yield argument. Well sure if one keeps in mind the 5% grace given when reporting yield to crop insurance. | |
