Holland, Indiana (SW IN) | Trying to plan my CC seed --have been using bin run SR wheat at 15-30 # for the last 7 or more years --seed most every acre
Seeding with a Krause tool with a mounted air box--see pic--been working OK BUT I think we could be doing better for the soil improvement
SO to my questions
#1 thinking about Annual Rye Grass (ARG) and something else possibly Crimson Clover --think 3-5# of ARG and 1# or less of crimson
#2 has to have a great root system --In our area has a fragipan layer at about 2' deep ARG is one of the few plants that will penetrate fragipan SLOWLY --takes 2 or 3 years
#3 last time ARG was planted on our farm in large % of acres (probably 20 years ago) we struggled with killing it BUT AGR was planted after PP probably much earlier than will this year
#4 have out all corn this year don't know about next year probably all corn--depends on prices
#5 will spread SR Wheat up the areas that may erode before working in the mix to get more cover where needed
Any advice appreciated BUT if the cost will be over $12 an acre forget it
