Another slant on the tire wear deal. Up here in ND, where tough stemed spring wheat is a major crop, I found that tire wear on the tractor and drill gauge and transport tires was reduced by atleast 75% when we started harvesting wheat with a stripper header. Cut spring wheat stubbles grind rubber off tires at a terrific rate, while long stripper straw causes no damage at all.
We also roll our field pea and soybean ground before planting with a 750 drill. The drill does not seem to pop any rocks back up and we are not compacting the seed rows or damaging seedlings by rolling the fields post planting.
