| When I was starting out, Jim Kinsella was one of the no-till guru's I listened to. When asked about his corn pops., he compared his long term no-till to irrigated ground with it's increased water infiltration and water holding capacity, so he said he used high pops. across the board similar to what you'd see on irrigated ground.
What I've seen on my lighter variable ground that's been no-tilled for decades is increased yield consistency round after round, with the lighter ground now pretty competitive with the higher OM prairie ground, even in a dry year like 2012.
Obviously the tree lines and wildlife will knock down yield field avgs. some depending on what percentage of the total field they make up back in the timber fields, but you can still progress toward good longer term yield avg. on low OM type soils with long term no-till in my experience, at least on decent sized fields.
