Subject: can I use calcium carbonate for gardens?

South cental Ohio
Have some tomatoes with blossom end rot and was told that they need calcium Some suggest crushing Tums up and putting them around the tomato plants. Can I use some calcium carbonate that I have to put in cattle feed ??? Would I just sprinkle a little around the tomatoes on the ground and water them ? I hate picking a nice new garden tomato to eat only to find the end rotted.
