You are correct.
You wouldn't necessarily need to hijack the IBBC. You can also simply "tee" into it at the IBBC. For that matter, you can tee into it in the cab, as well. There is a 4 pin Deutsch DT under the right side upholstery, near the power strip, where you can tee into ISOBUS.
