Central Alberta | The size depends on how long you need it to stay on after the power goes off. A small one is sufficient for most computer systems, and the more you spend, the more capacity/features you get. If you like geeky things like monitoring your uninterruptable power supply (UPS) some of them connect to your computer or smartphone so you can monitor things like battery condition and power interruption logs. Most of us just want something to keep our computer from going blank whenever there's a thunderstorm in the area. Most of them are fully protected against power spikes also.
Laptops generally don't need a UPS, because they switch to the internal battery as soon as power is interrupted, but it's still a good idea for spike protection. I have several around the house to keep my TV from having to reboot after the power winks out, and also my printers, internet router, clocks and a lamp so I can see when things go dark. | |
