NNW Nebraska | It had the one on the fender replaced with a rebuilt unit, off ebay.
Year later, pickup was left set for a week. Wouldn't start.
Hauled it to ford dealer. They noticed that one was getting very hot. Water was dripping out of it. Pulled it out & sent it in for their "lifetime warranty ". They sent another, but allowed it had been in a flood and would not fix it again under warranty. Had lots wet roads, but pickup was never in a flood.
Anyhow, pickup now runs but not good enough to drive. Don't throw any codes.
Dealer technician told me it is probably the box behind the emergency brake. They were a little reluctant to spend a lot of time on a old pickup. & if they put one on, it would be much more expensive than I could get one for.
My pickup is a 97 with a automatic.
Have a dead parted out pickup that is a 99 or 2000 that had a manual transmission.
Would there be any reason I could not try the box out of that pickup.? I know the programming would be different, but would be nice to know if it made a considerable difference in the way it ran, before having mine rebuilt.
