I've heard that kind of noise on vehicles that I have driven.  I suspect a piece of debris got stuck in there causing the noise.  I have stopped, backed up, and then the noise seems to go away.  That is what leads me to believe a piece of debris got caught.  When you hear the noise, stop, back up and see if the noise goes away.
