| Frankly dryland Corn acres planted out here on the fringe are a Lottery Ticket..
I planted about 20% of my corn acres as dryland this year.. could be big money could be snake eyes it all depends.. some guys do.. a couple hundred acres.. or a couple thousand acres.. it just depends on their operation.. like a said above.. a neighbor last year harvested like 135 bu dryland corn..two years ago.. "that works." they intended to put in like 2,000 acres this year..
They got 0.0.. which is probably a good thing cause with the drought and heat that stuff which got in.. maybe will do 0 to 75 bu.. probably 50 bu as of right now.. idk.. but NOT 135 unless things CHANGE SIGNIFICANTLY for the better..
As Todd says NW kansas has been cranking out like 145..165 bu dryland corn for a long time.. and not long ago.. late 1990's there were whole farms left unplanted up there.. cause it was too damn dry according to some reports.. seem to remember like a 25,000 acre operation which nobody wanted like in 98..99..??
before no till and the dryland corn thing took off.. different story here for about a decade or two.. but.. the pendulum will swing back..
... only a matter of time. |
