SW Wisconsin | Right now the tradeoff is that coops can't drop a producer except for quality problems, and they don't have to pay the federal minimum price. DFA is driving milk prices down by paying less than the federal minimum, and under bidding independent processors who have to pay the minimum price. Would it be possible to require all buyers to pay the federal minimum price, and disallow dropping except for quality or licensing violations for all buyers? It's a legislative change, most likely. It could probably be pushed through, although DFA would be pissed. | |
