The next section of the manual states to remove the snap ring, remove the shaft, and install the adapter to use the 1-3/8 shafts and set the correct speed on the PTO. To install the 1-3/4 PTO you would reverse the steps by removing the adapter, installing the large shaft, and then installing the snap ring.
