Whats the consensus on these compared to other self propelled sickle machines? Will be cutting rye, oats, trit, hay, alfalfa. Can’t really justify a SP discbine, only want to spend $4-6k.
Looking for something SP, diesel, 12-14ft, decent cab, -any other options? what about the old Hesstons?
Thanks
If you want to fly down the field it won't be your machine.
Now if your sections are in good shape and the guards aren't worn it can cut some really heavy crop at some decent speeds.
Its a twin knife system so your travel rate is quite good.
You've got conditioner rolls so dry down due to the crimping of your stems is going to be much better than with anything but similar.
IMO and remembering what was most commonly used by the alfalfa dehy plants some 35 to 50 years ago - - - -
the NH was more common - - - the Hesstons were also a good machine but I would give the preference to NH if only by a bit.
Would suggest finding at least electronic copies of owner's manuals, parts books (those are online now) and repair manuals.
With so fixup regular care and driving it without needing to cut at 9 to 10 mph - - - - I'd think you could cut 4 to 500 acres per season for many a season.
How nice a cab - - - - well it won't be like a contemporary machine - - - - should likely use a LOT less diesel than a contemporary disc bine. (YMMV) |
