Eastern ON | Don't have all the marketing info you want but it has gained popularity here. Local place sends to Japan, has to be non-gmo and from a list of varieties approved by elevator. Contract is based off regular soy prices plus a agreed premium. All loads brought in go through a non-gmo section at the elevator and are tested before accepting. Elevator fills small shipping containers and they are put on boat at Port of Montreal. I've heard a few guys quitting it because the chemicals for spraying non-gmo beans and a slight yield reduction plus waiting for tests before unloading wasn't worth the premium. | |
