To me, mineral requirements, salt requirements and fly control are three separate matters. I use rubs for flies, white salt blocks in trays for salt and Mineral-lyx in 250 lb returnable steel barrels for mineral and have for about 15 years. A very experienced neighbor got me started with Mineral-lyx. I believe the barrels are very successful. Zero waste, no problems calving or otherwise that can be attributed to mineral shortage. No salt in the mineral.

Hope your not paying much for that mineral Jim. It's on the bottom end on everything. But maybe your feed and soils are adequate. Ours here sure are not.
