Haircut May 19
My last cut was sometime in February, guess about mid month.

Normal place in shop in downtown Des Moines. In Kirkwood Hotel, on the skywalk. Started going there after a visit during the Iowa Power Show many years ago.
Have also been to a skywalk shop in the Insurance Exchange building, they are now appointment only.

In mid April I decided to just go down to the skywalk and look around.
Pretty dead. Very few cars in parking ramp, no food places open, skywalk level C-stores closed.

It looked to me like when the barber shops were allowed to open, things would be a mess.
Has been quite awhile, just wait a couple more weeks for things to catch up.

The weekend of May 16-17 things opened up some in my part of the world.
So on Tuesday May 19 I went to downtown again.
No real intention of getting a haircut, just another look around.

Get to parking ramp, more cars than last time, but still not many.
Park, get scooter going and on the skywalk. This time the on skywalk C-stores open.
After awhile I go to my barber shop. Do ask if I can get a appointment someday in the not too distant future?
‘Be a couple days. But since you are from out of town, I will do you after closing at about 5:00.’
Long wait, but I said yes.

So I had a few hours to kill, so put a few miles on the scooter.
Was able to get a carry out dinner at a nice place, Palmers.

Went up to the area of the farm show. Got to arena area, but doors locked.
Federal building, county office building, etc. Closed, except for appointment.

At last time for my haircut. Prior customer was just getting out of chair.
Was told to stay out until she cleaned the place up.
Sweep cut hair off floor.
Sanitized chair, all her tools, etc.

Told to come in.
I had to have a mask on all the time. And she wore a mask.
First she put sanitizer on my hands, wash over her sink.
Gave me a clean towel.

In chair. fresh robe, for each customer. She washes them every evening.
Mask in place all the time, she did move the ear loops a bit.
No rinse or shampoo.
Could not us the in shop bathroom.

Gave her a pretty decent tip. Bet income has been way down for year.
