Did say you had a grain merchant's license or something similar.? Is that thru the State of Ohio and what does it allow you to do?
Yes JC, Previous generation had the license for years when I was growing up. From the Ohio Department of Ag. We had built storage enough that we ran like a small elevator. Had decent customer base built up, but as our farm grew in size and we got older, something needed to give. So we reduced our grain handling activities and concentrated on our grain farming and seed sales business. Like everything else in society, Mom and Pop businesses in grain elevators are on the way out. Is why I questioned whether it would’ve been a good move for you when a while back you were considering buying a grain elevator. |
