NE SD | Brown, Day, Marshall, and the northern part of Spink counties are in the same boat here in SD. May 1 it looked like things would probably turn out pretty good. Some guys were putting in s field of corn here and there. Fields were starting to dry up pretty good. May 4th a 0.5-.75" rain turned into 2.5" and it was wetter than it has been all year. We've had a couple 1/2" rains and 0.2-0.25" rains since then with very little heat. Finally broke 70 and had more than an hour or two of sun today. The last 2-3 days guys have just started getting back.
Corn stalks are not drying out. We were able to grt the ground I scratched with the chisel last fall in good condition. Basically not an inch more. Will probably end up with 1/4 normal corn acres and try to get bean acres in if we can by 6/10 as PP just doesn't work on beans. The corn that was put in around the first of may has some pretty marginal stands from what I can tell. Just too much water, saturated soils, and 40 degree Temps since then.
