Western Australia | China has placed an 80% tariff on feed and malt barley for Australian grain. Hopefully wheat wont get hit he same , however Im sure we dont export a lot of wheat to China.
This is partly political as they are not happy with the Australian Government at the moment. The other reaso is barley prices in Australia for the last 18 months have been higher than normal due to decreased production and increased domestic use on the East coast due to 2 years of record low production. China is not happy about feed barley prices of over $300 and malt barley pushing over $350. Classic case of trying to drive down export prices.
This will impact West Australian growers significantly as China has taken a lot of our barley , particularly malting grades. | |
