39.48, -82.98 | COVID-19 has primarily been an urban disease so far. That's where people are concentrated and where there are more chances to pass it around. But it will work it's way into the rural areas. As a group, rural people are older, in poorer health, and are further from hospitals...especially those with critical care units.
Over the last two or three weeks, social distancing has had a major effect on new cases. Once health officials are convinced that we are safe to begin relaxing social restrictions, we will see more COVID-19 in rural and small-town America.
Whether that will be a continuation of the first wave or a harbinger of the second remains to be seen. | |
