South Central NE | First time with corn silage in a bag, & been a long time since I've had any put up. Started testing my feed a lot more in the last couple years, still trying to learn more about how to use my different feedstuffs for the most economical feed. Just got a tmr wagon last year, so like the ability to mix everything into a nutritious mix. I know the corn I had chopped was drier than I wanted, but having it custom harvested I was just in line. The feed test results are from right at harvest time & than just now when I opened the bag. Does protein usually go up after ensiling? I plan on using it to feed cows in a drylot situation, is 20 - 30 pounds as fed a good amount. During calving right now what might be a good amount? I worked them up to about 12 pounds as fed right now. I will use cornstalk bales for a filler blended in, original plan was wdgs but that will probably change to soybean meal for protein, or possibly alfalfa. Thanks for your thoughts!
